To the East: Jersey Shore!

Friday morning, we set off on a roadtrip to New Jersey.  The driving experience was a little strange - driving through pockets of super dense trees, figuring out toll road booths, and realizing how slow the drive goes when they mark every tenth of a mile.  What is that all about?!
We really were much too close to the coast to miss a chance to see the Atlantic - especially for 3 sisters who saw the Pacific for their first times in the coldest months of the year!  I've gotta say - it's realllly nice to wade in the waves without your toes going numb!!
It's also really nice to see a dear friend from design school, who moved oh so far away when we graduated!  Thanks again, Kim! :)
We had a lovely picnic on the sand, watching the seagulls and a lone paddle surfer.  The waves were higher than normal, so not a lot of people playing in the water.
Then, we strolled along the boardwalk, found some delicious ice cream/frozen yogurt, and admired the incredible houses along the shore.

We made it as far as the pier in Ocean Grove, and tried to walk to the end of it.  Apparently, you have to be in the cool club to go all the way!
And, they have this creepy scarecrow to keep even the birds away (not terribly effective...)
We opted to walk barefoot in the sand for the return trek.  It was fabulous.  Hard to beat a warm, sunny day with some of my most favorite people!
And, of course, the scenery was top-notch.  Who doesn't love a little ocean time?
