Twenty...Somethin'

March 24 - I woke up to a friendly "Happy 27th!" and I tried to correct him!  "Ha! I'm only 26!"  Hmmm...Who do you trust?  The guy who crunches numbers for fun, or the girl who doesn't know where she is when she wakes up half the time?  Gotta let the guy win, especially when he surprises you with a full-on country breakfast that doesn't require you to get out of bed!
In any case, I knew I was a twenty-somethin' and was in the mood to celebrate!  On the agenda for the day: Get out and walk around in the sunshine, eat good food, wish my birthday buddies a wonderful day, and read all the lovely cards, texts, and facebook messages that reinforce that star-of-the-day happiness.

After breakfast, we headed off into the hills to find a private hiking trail we'd heard about.  We spent a few hours exploring unfamiliar stretches of gravel roads, people's long driveways that looked just like the roads, and never did find that trail head!  But, we did see a lot of early-Spring beauty.  Between our aimless wanderings in the hills, and our plan B "hike" through the UI Arboretum, we saw snow-covered hills, an out-of-place gatehouse, lingering Fall colors, and promising Spring buds.

The most memorable part of our adventure? Two geese in a tree!  Who'd have thought these big, heavy birds would hang out in a tree?  We stopped right there to watch them.
It turned out there was also a pair of geese on the ground near the tree too, and the two pairs were talking like crazy to each other!  One honker on the ground was throwing its head around like crazy, and pacing around.  Finally, the two on the ground took off in flight.  At this point, the two in the tree that were fairly calm before just went nuts, trying to call them back!  Intriguing.

After a most delicious lunch at Mikey's Gyros, we headed to Lewiston.  The rest of the day was pretty great too, with a surprise phone call from the East with some fabulous singing, sushi with our close friend Nick, and of course a DQ Blizzard!  Thank you all for making my day :)

Something's Growing!

This year, I am more than a little excited to make the most of our garden.  I didn't need any pressuring to order the seeds and get them going in their tiny peat pots, and I just love checking on them every day.  Just last week, they started showing signs of their real identities beyond their Dumbo-looking starter leaves.  Yippee Skippee!

Hibernation Ends Now

I'm not so sure the rest of their friends got the memo, but hibernation is over!!
I tackled the biggest flower bed today, and freed the tiny green shoots of daisies and lilies from their mulch of dead things.  I was cruising right along until I spotted a little pile of ladybugs, and every leaf or blade of grass I touched after that was swarming with them!
I guess I better let them huddle up for a few weeks longer.  I do tend to get the fever prematurely!
